Super Over: Six Vanuatu Blast Stars

Wesley Viraliliu
Mighty Efate Panthers

Bustling in with the big chain around his neck, Wesley Viraliliu set himself apart in the Blast after castling Wolford Kalworai two weeks ago in the win over the Ifira Sharks, with an unplayable delivery that sent the off-stump doing cartwheels.

Keeping high in his classy action, Viraliliu generates natural in-swing with his angle, taking width away from his opponents. It’s the type of bowling that has earned the 21-year-old 10 T20I appearances for his country, debuting at the East-Asia Pacific T20 World Cup Qualifiers, before playing at the Pacific Games and on a tour of Malaysia last year. Going at eight runs an over in his early international career, his ability to swing the ball means he’ll likely play a bigger part in longer format cricket.

Seven wickets in five matches only proves his credentials with the ball, but it is perhaps his emergence as a talent with the bat in the Blast that has made him such a vital part of the Mighty Efate Panthers side. Striking at over 200, you can pencil him in for a quick-fire twenty or thirty to move his team along at speed from number four with an array of classy shots.

With more sixes than fours at the tournament thus far, look out for his monstrous hitting in the middle overs.
