U19 World Cup

Under 19 World Cup Day 4 – Scotland blown away by West Indies

West Indies U19s (96/3, Parris 26, Peet 1/15) beat Scotland U19s (95 ao, Davidson 43, Sankar 3/17) by 7 wickets

Scotland were blown away by a strong West Indies bowling performance in their second Under 19 World Cup game. The Junior Saltires were bowled out for 95, before the tournament hosts chased the Scots’ total inside 20 overs.

Scotland lost the toss and were asked to bat in their Group D game at Warner Park, St. Kitts. The game got off to a poor start when Charlie Tear chipped Shiva Sankar to mid off for two runs. Sankar’s opening spell claimed a further two victims, as Samuel Elstone and Tom Mackintosh both fell in the 9th over.

Opener Oliver Davidson and match-one star Jack Jarvis were tasked with rebuilding, but Jarvis could only make 6 before sending a catch to the boundary. Whilst Davidson dug in, soaking up 93 balls for his 43, a steady stream of wickets at the other end saw Scotland bowled out 5 short of 100. Only Muhaymen Majeed (11) and Davidson made it to double figures.

With few to defend, Scotland’s bowlers went about an impossible task. Although Jarvis, Davidson and Charlie Peet were able to take a wicket each, runs were easy to come by for the hosts. Shaqkere Parris (26) and Teddy Bishop (23*) did the bulk of the run scoring. Bishop hit a four and a six off consecutive balls from Rafay Khan to finish the game.

Scotland face Australia in St. Kitts on Wednesday in their final group game. They will then travel to Trinidad to play in the Plate phase of the competition.
