The International Cricket Council have announced that Cricket World Cup Challenge League B will be rescheduled to a future date due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.
The second series of the competition was set to take place in Uganda in August with the fifteen games slated to take place in the African country postponed indefinitely.
The competition was originally scheduled to take place in July with the ICC moving the Ugandan leg of the league to August to monitor the situations of participating nations.
With restrictions varying across the participating countries the decision was given as much time as possible however with travel bans still in place amongst other logistical issues, the competition was forced to be rescheduled.
In a media release published by the ICC on Thursday, Head of Events Chris Tetley committed to the playing of the tournament when it is safe to do so.
“We will now work with hosts and members to find a window where they can be safely and practically rescheduled. The ICC’s priority continues to be to protect the well-being of players, coaches, officials, fans and the whole cricket community,” said Tetley
CWC Challenge League B saw Kenya, Uganda, Italy, Jersey, Bermuda and Hong Kong pooled together with Uganda unbeaten after the first set of matches in Oman in December of 2019.
The winner of Challenge League Group A and B will secure two of the six places in the Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Playoff scheduled to take place in 2022.
